How to Trim and Clean Spot Welder Electrodes
Electrodes are welding consumables. Even the spot welder electrodes made of high-quality materials need to be trimmed and cleaned when they are used, which will prolong the service life of the electrodes.
During the welding process, the resistance welding electrode is very easy to be oxidized, polluted, worn and deformed. If it is not cleaned and trimmed in time, it will have a significant impact on the welding quality.
Methods of electrode cleaning and trimming
The cycle of electrode cleaning should depend on the material of the electrode and the material of the weldment.
If the surface of the electrode has oxides, dirt and slight wear, it can be ground and trimmed with a flat plate with a rubber pad on the emery cloth pad; if the wear and deformation of the electrode surface is large, it can be corrected with a file; When there is large wear and deformation, the electrode should be replaced with a new one. When welding aluminum alloys, if the surface of the electrode is slightly oxidized and polluted, it should be cleaned immediately, otherwise, the corrosion resistance of the aluminum alloy will be reduced.
When welding electrodes of the same material, the electrodes of the AC power supply are more likely to be contaminated than the electrodes of the DC power supply.
