Samsung Has Found A Second 3nm Chip Customer

TSMC has been hotly debated recently because Intel almost canceled its 3nm orders for next year. This is seen as a blow to the 3nm process, but this is a good thing for Samsung. South Korean media broke the news that Samsung's 3nm customers have doubled, and now There is a second manufacturer in use.

On June 30, Samsung announced the world's first mass production of the 3nm process, which will be shipped at the end of July. Their first 3nm customer is PanSemi (Shanghai Pansi Semiconductor Technology Co., Ltd.), a Chinese mining machine chip manufacturer.

The structure of the mining machine chip is simple, so it is very suitable for new technology to practice. However, the demand for mining machine chips is not high, so Samsung cannot expect the mining machine company to drive the production capacity of the 3nm process to increase, so it is still necessary to actively expand new customers, especially Large semiconductor companies.

South Korean media reported that Samsung's 3nm process now has a second customer, but the specific list has not been announced. Samsung has supplied 3nm chips to both customers, and now the growth rate of demand exceeds the growth rate of production capacity, that is supply exceeds demand.

It is reported that Samsung is currently mass-producing the 3nm GAE process, which can reduce power consumption by 45%, reduce the area by 16%, and improve performance by 23%.

The second-generation 3nm GAP process can reduce power consumption by 50%, improve performance by 30%, and reduce the area by 35%, which is better, but it will not be mass-produced until 2024.
